In 1995 the team of THA Architecture and Northwest Architectural Company (NAC) was selected to design the $15 million expansion of this facility near Blaine, Washington, which monitors automobile, bus and commercial cargo movement entering the United States from Canada. In addition to direct inspection and processing activities, this port houses the supervision and administrative support for five agencies that participate in the border activities. The facility includes 30,000 sf of ground floor inspection activities, an addition of 50,000 sf of general office space and a 13-acre campus. The Port of Entry received a 2002 General Services Administration Design Excellence Award.
