University of Washington, Tacoma, Washington
40,000 sf
Estimated Completion 2011

The proposed Phase 3 development at the UW Tacoma Campus will address the needs of students, faculty and staff by providing much needed academic and support space to accommodate increased enrollment of 600 full-time students. Major project elements include the adaptive reuse and renovation of the 45,000 Russell T. Joy (Joy) Building, a new 40,000 sf Building, and select renovation of the Science Building. All the buildings in Phase 3 will be designed to a minimum LEED Silver certification.

The Joy Building is a three-story historic structure originally constructed in 1892. Programs housed in the building will include general assignment classrooms and seminar rooms, lecture hall, and departmental offices for the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Department. The ground floor will house retail and commercial space.

A new 40,000 sf building will house an expansion of the Library, faculty offices, and retail space. The renovation of the Science Building includes a new physics/geology lab, organic chemistry lab, geology lab and group study rooms.
