University of Oregon, Eugene
100,000 sf
Estimate completion in Fall 2011

HDR/THA Architecture designed an integrative science building for the University of Oregon. Currently under construction, the 95,000 sf interdisciplinary building will provide flexible, adaptable laboratory space for a variety of research scientists including Neuroscience, Life Science, Material Science, Physical Science, and Computer Science. In addition to this laboratory space, the facility will house an fMRI and other complex core components. The building is located on the northern edge of campus, close to an existing campus gateway. It requires careful integration into the existing science complex. The Lewis Integrative Science Building will begin construction in 2010.

Sustainable Design Highlights:

Natural ventilation for non-lab spaces supplemented with passive heating and cooling strategies, daylight harvesting, night flush, heat extraction from multiple local sources including refrigeration in the building, heat from the adjacent utility tunnel, and zebra fish waste water from an adjacent building.

Certification: LEED Platinum expected
