- Beaverton City Library
Beaverton, OR
69,000 sf
Completed in 2000
Beaverton City Library has strong civic character and has served as a key element in the development of a new urban center for the city of Beaverton. Its location in the center of the city enhances its role as both a community center and information resource center.
THA provided building design and interior furnishings for the three-story facility, and planning for future expansion of up to 30,000 sf. This full-service central library features light-filled open spaces for reading and browsing. Library patrons have dubbed it the 'city of trees' because of its graceful, arching wooden columns. The building includes a 150-seat auditorium, public meeting rooms, a computer room, and a large children's area.
The Beaverton Library received a 2002 AIA Portland Chapter Merit Award, a 2002 Wood Design Citation Award, a 2001 AIA Portland Chapter People's Choice Award, and a 2001 AIA Portland Chapter Craftsmanship Award.
