Portland, Oregon
47 mixed-income residential units
815 sf retail
13,000 sf library
Completed in 2002

Sockeye Hollywood, LLC and Multnomah County collaborated to create The Bookmark Apartments/The Hollywood Library, which now serves as a model for public/private partnership in the Portland region. The mixed-use project includes 47 mixed-income residential units, a 13,000 sf branch library and 815 sf of retail. Project goals were to create a building with the lasting value required of a prominent civic facility; enhance the vitality of the district; offer housing for mixed incomes; and increase density along transit corridors and within existing commercial districts.

The building has already become a neighborhood landmark, enhancing pedestrian activity and strengthening the economic vitality of the surrounding commercial district. The library welcomes 1,500-2,000 visitors each day, and residents of The Bookmark Apartments enjoy the proximity to neighborhood amenities.

The project's sustainable design promotes high energy efficiency, healthier indoor air, resource efficiency and environmental responsibility, and was the first building certified by PGE's Earth Advantage® program.
