Architecture Hall is one of a handful of surviving buildings from the 1909 Alaskan-Yukon Pacific Expo held in Seattle. The design includes a complete renovation to the interior, creating an open and light-filled space that encourages interaction and fosters discovery in the Architecture Department.

To ensure the preservation of this historic building, the renovation of Architecture Hall includes upgrading all major building systems; correcting accessibility, seismic and life safety code conditions; performing asbestos abatement; and providing updated facilities for existing program use.

As a result of the steel frame and unreinforced masonry walls, seismic upgrades are one of the most important aspects of this renovation. THA worked closely with structural engineers to develop innovative solutions that reduce the physical and financial impact of these changes.

Sustainable Design Highlights:

Extended the life of a historically significant structure, modifed the building's historic ventilation structure for reuse in natural ventilation. Greater than 30% energy use reduction from national average of building type (measured EUI)
