Sustainable Design
Mercy Corps World Headquarters
THA has a 26-year history of designing energy efficient and environmentally sensitive buildings. Over 75% of our staff are LEED® Accredited Professionals and all are personally and professionally dedicated to designing sustainable environments. We are continually building on our experience to advance design and construction methods and technology to improve our buildings. Though we have dozens of buildings that are LEED certified or seeking certifications, we look beyond counting points to find sensible, creative and enlightened ways of improving our environment.
We have an in-house Sustainable Design Committee (SDC) whose mission is to study and promote evolving environmental practices through discussion and design. The SDC seeks to advance education, establish environmental design standards, incorporate green office practices and promote awareness within the office and community.
We have recently adopted the 2030 Challenge, requiring that all new buildings and renovations be designed to meet a fossil fuel, GHG-emitting, energy consumption performance standard of 50% of the regional average for that building type by 2010 and carbon-neutrality by 2030.
