Washington State University, Vancouver
54,000 sf
Completion Summer 2009
The Undergraduate Classroom Building is a project prioritized by the 2005 Legislature to support WSU Vancouver's transition to a four year university. The 4-story, 54,000 square foot new facility provide classrooms of various sizes, seminar rooms, computer lab spaces, informal student study spaces, faculty offices and work stations, and associated support spaces. The major programs located in the building are the Education Department and the New General Education Academy. The building exterior consists of masonry veneer and metal panel systems, and metal siding on steel framing. Large windows and skylights provide daylighting and views for office areas and classrooms. Standard interior finishes such as carpeting, linoleum, gypsum board, and acoustic tile ceilings are complemented with wood paneling and linear wood ceilings.
Sustainable Design Highlights:
Minimized site disturbance, recycled 98% of construction waste, bioswales for stormwater filtration and retention, FSC certified wood, 24.5% energy efficiency beyond code requirements as modeled
Certification: LEED Gold (expected in 2010)
