University of Washington, Tacoma
21,000 sf
Completed in 2008
Located amid historic buildings in downtown Tacoma, this 21,000 sf building provides students, faculty and the larger community with a place to engage in conversations, exchange ideas, study and socialize on the University of Washington Tacoma campus. The building creates a front door and living room for this urban campus and is the center of social activities and formal events.
The design of the Assembly Hall Commons Building responds to the proportions of the adjacent historic structures while using a modern vocabulary of concrete, steel and glass. The building's transparency creates connections inside the building and to the active streetscape outside. The highly flexible facility will accommodate current and future needs of this rapidly expanding University and is designed to meet a LEED® Silver rating.
Sustainable Design Highlights:
Wall displacement air ventilation, circulation spaces minimally conditioned, building thermally zoned, low VOC materials, daylight sensors with lighting controls
Certification: LEED Gold
