Lewis & Clark College, Portland, OR
100,000 sf renovation/addition, 66,000 sf new
Completed in 1997

The three-building Signature Project consists of the new James F. Miller Center for the Humanities, the Fred W. Fields Center for the Visual Arts and a major addition and renovation to the College's Aubrey R. Watzek Library. Lewis & Clark College is located on the former Frank Estate, built in the 1920s, which includes the Manor House and a landmark garden. A primary goal of the Signature Project was to reintegrate the historic garden as the center of the campus and evoke the historic style of the original Manor House. The building locations and their relationships to each other grow out of the geometry and spirit of the original estate. All three buildings are grouped around a circular plaza, which opens to the cross axis of the historic gardens.

The Signature Project was awarded a 1999 AIA Portland Chapter Citation.
