Completed in 2005
Located on the North Campus of Lewis & Clark College, the three-story social sciences building houses classrooms, faculty offices and departmental facilities for the Social Sciences Division and other programs. Howard Hall is a key piece of the College's 30-year master plan and was designed to organize the campus as a "Jeffersonian-style academic village." The building was designed to facilitate the interaction of faculty and students on both a social and intellectual level. It incorporates a variety of public and private areas where exposed structural materials create "physical metaphors for the ways in which the social sciences expose and express the structure of human interaction."
THA worked with Lewis & Clark to meet its sustainable design objectives. The project was the first LEED Gold certified higher education building in Oregon.
Sustainable Design Highlights:
Recycled 90% of construction waste, 40% energy efficiency beyond code requirements, raised floor distribution system with displacement ventilation, operable windows, minimal interior finishes, the use of durable long-life and low toxicity materials, includes water quality garden, green features demonstration project
