Charles has 24 years of experience in the design, production and construction of a broad range of building types including criminal justice, health/recreation, housing, and primary and higher education. Since joining THA in 1996, Charles has served as Project Architect for a variety of THA projects including the Fouts Center for Visual Arts at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington; Atwater Condominiums in Portland; and the Pacific Highway US Port of Entry in Blaine, Washington.
Charles serves as THA's Senior Architect and Quality Manager providing quality assurance and control. He performs THA's in-house peer reviews, provides construction administration oversight and monitors post occupancy building operations. Charles has extensive experience in the design of high performance buildings and provides office wide leadership in the advancement of sustainable design.
Charles received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona and his Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Award winning THA projects on which Charles has served as Project Architect include: UCSC Humanities Complex - Portland AIA Merit; Pacific Highway US Port of Entry - Portland AIA Merit; GSA Design Honor and Citation awards; and Portland State University Urban Center - Regional AIA Citation and Portland AIA People's Choice and Merit awards.
